Application And Precautions Of Magnesium Oxide

Magnesium Oxide is an alkaline oxide and also an ionic compound, belonging to the category of cementitious materials. It is a white powder with no odor, taste, or toxicity, and is a typical alkaline earth metal oxide. The chemical formula is MgO. Its melting point is 2852 ℃ and boiling point is 3600 ℃. Dissolve in acid and ammonium salt solutions, difficult to dissolve in water, and not soluble in alcohol.

The use of Magnesium Oxide

1. Can be used to produce magnesite products. Like magnesite cement, as a new type of cement, it has advantages such as light weight, high strength, heat insulation and fire prevention, environmental protection and energy conservation, and is widely used in fields such as building materials, municipal engineering, agriculture, machinery, etc.
2. It can be used in advanced lubricating oil processing as a cleaning agent, vanadium suppressant, and desulfurization agent, greatly improving the compactness and rheological properties of the lubricating film.
3. It can be used as a food additive, color stabilizer, and pH regulator for health products and food.
4. It can be used in the field of biopharmaceuticals as an antacid, adsorbent, chelating filter aid, etc., which can inhibit and alleviate excessive gastric acid.
5. Magnesium oxide also has good magnetic conductivity and insulation.
6. It is the standard for white pigments. Lightweight magnesium oxide can be used as a raw material to prepare ceramics, enamel, refractory crucibles, and refractory bricks.

Precautions for using magnesium oxide

1. If exposed to the air, it is easy to absorb water and carbon dioxide, gradually becoming basic Magnesium Carbonate.
2. Patients with renal insufficiency should use it with caution or follow medical advice.

3. Patients with atrioventricular block should use it with caution or follow medical advice.
